Held at the Hartebeesport dam 26 – 28 February 2010.
This was not a planned visit as I went up in Joburg on a small errand. Wolverine came to visit and we watched sprint cars and bikes at Tarlton (my first time). Some of the speeds they got up to was impressive. E.g. 192 km/h for a quad bike on a quarter mile, the dude is off his rocker!
Following day materials were cancelled by the supplier and my mate Duggie Visser (National president of the Parrot Riders) called and invited us for a visit. Established 1980. The Impala Rally is a hectic, happy, busy rally, one of the biggest in the country and is on one of the best sites. Activities include several bands, lots of prizes, freestyle MX jumping, wrestling, swimming pools, high water slide, trampolines, a fully-fledged skatepark, jumping castles… The popular Hartbeespoort Holiday resort has lots of grass, trees, ablutions, camping and caravanning facilities, tar roads, better access and traffic control, and general revamping is ongoing. And 3km away the Hartebeespoort Dam town and surrounds are Gauteng’s booming playground. The Main Lucky Draw prize: Suzuki GSXR600.
Concourse saw some of the sweetest machines on show, BUT you could see that there is lots of money in the “look at me toys”.
It was good to see Duggie again after nearly a year. Whilst walking around, one could see that there was a lot of tension between some of the older clubs, a lot of rumours to the reason, but nothing to do with us.
So I did not pry and did not interfere.
The bikers were there by the thousands and all the many visitors seeing how the trend of biking has changed over the years from the good reliable naked bike to the new superbikes and the modern day cruisers is chalk to cheese. Just mega bucks being spent on flashy machines.
To finish off the evening we watched oval track racing in Pretoria with a few friends.
