The 15th Bosberg rally was opened on Friday, April 30, 2010 at 10:00am at Bestershoek, Somerset East
We all decided that we would leave early on Saturday morning, HA HA of course half of the riders were late. I decided not to ride trusty Merlin, but take the CB 750 Custom (not named yet) for its maiden ride after rebuilding her.
What a start! We stopped at the gas station and went screeching down the road with the four into four turnouts, talking to all who could hear. That was short lived, as the bike went slower and slower. Thank goodness I decided to trailer Merlin down just in case. But problem was that he left early before us so I had to just get there. This was not fun as the bike barely running… The others took off only Stanley giving me a helping hand. Check here check there to find there was water in the fuel. Drained the carbs, rode a bit and drained it again. In this process we popped two plugs and rode the rest of the way on two.
This took a whole lot longer. It was very good of Ross from South Riders to turn back and join the slow procession to Somerset east.
On arrival, I went to fetch Merlin at the campsite. The caravan park is very beautiful, situated next the small river under the trees. Ablutions were fairly good too. Only the 1.5 km dirt road is quite slippery with the fine sand and you have to keep your wits about you. Only one rider had a small tumble on the one corner.
Entering the town, where all the festivities were happening, I was greeted by a crowd and it was punishment time for me. The gang decided my riding so slowly was not on, as if it was my fault and …a doughnut appeared in the main drag. This seemed to liven up the town a bit, which led to another and another… A total of 21 doughnuts! Stanley showed it could be done on his 1100 shadow too.
A bit of tug of war, the Cradock big boys against all others and I joined the team as I’ve been working in Cradock for months now. We pulled all, even if we were outnumbered. We appreciated the cold beer after winning. The winning team: Geoff, Christi, ………….., Ivan, Vlakkies.
To the tent we went as Stanley, Shawn, Morne and Irene had their initiation of drinking, pole dancing and most of all having a good time. Some had to have a small snooze on the grass but made it through.
The rally was very much enjoyed. Prizes were poor, food stalls bad and no other stalls at all, like at any of the other small rallies. Nevertheless, we go to have a good time.
All that burned rubber and Merlin had to have a trailer ride back to Cradock again. Thanks to Morne, I had a ride back as his babalas would not let him on his own bike.
